The Augusta Greenjackets Minor League Baseball Team

The Augusta GreenJackets are a minor league baseball team that plays in Augusta, Georgia as a Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Lake Olmstead Stadium has been the home of the Greenjackets since the 1995 season, although Augusta has fielded a team in the South Atlantic League since 1988. The team is so named in honor of The Masters golf tournament held in Augusta, where the winner receives a green jacket.

greenjacketsBefore the Giants took over the club's affiliation after the 2004 season, the GreenJackets were a part of the Boston Red Sox organization. The Red Sox replaced the Pittsburgh Pirates in Augusta, but as the club with the briefest affiliation, the GreenJackets have third baseman Kevin Youkilis as the only one of their prospects to make the Red Sox roster, although knuckle baller Tim Wakefield pitched here in 1989 with the Pirates organization. The Red Sox' relationship with Augusta met with immediate success when the Greenjackets won the South Atlantic League championship in their first year as an affiliate team.

Built primarily as a baseball facility between 1994 and 1995, Lake Olmstead Stadium has been transformed by the GreenJackets into a versatile entertainment center for Augusta and the surrounding communities. The stadium seats 4,400, with nearly 1,000 box seats, 830 reserved seats, over 2,000 general admission seats, and also offers a large 500 person picnic area down the left field line and a Grill and Bar area down the right field line. Lake Olmstead Stadium has been the site of events associated with The Masters golf tournament, many concerts, the Annual Masters Beach Blast Concert, and other special events as well..

The Colts originally began in 2006 as the Augusta Spartans of the American Indoor Football League. After a mediocre season, they played in the World Indoor Football League in 2007. Augusta Lynx Indoor Ice Hockey Team

The Augusta Lynx are the ECHL team based in Augusta, Georgia. The Lynx currently play their home games at the James Brown Arena. The Lynx are affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks of the NHL and the Portland Pirates of the AHL.

Augusta LynxThe team is named in honor of The Masters golf tournament held in Augusta, as a slang term for playing golf is "hitting the links" (Lynx is a play on words of that title.)

For the past nine years, more than a million fans around the CSRA have embraced the Augusta Lynx by attending hockey games at the James Brown Arena... and for the past nine years, the Augusta Lynx have helped to raise more than $1 million for area charities and community groups. That tradition continues in 2007-08 as the Augusta Lynx celebrate a Decade of Hockey and strive to continue making a positive impact on the Augusta-Aiken Metro area.

The Lynx welcome any interested parties to participate in our Community Outreach Programs. Our main objective and responsibility is to get the professional athlete out into the community as a positive role model. The Augusta Lynx Community Outreach Program is designed to help enrich our local environment by offering personal appearances by Augusta Lynx professional athletes, the Lady Lynx Dance Team, and front office personnel. Local business groups, charitable foundations, medical facilities, unions, schools, and all organized functions are asked to take advantage of this Outreach program by scheduling speaking engagements, visits, and hockey clinics.
